National Assembly Approves Financing Agreements to Support Energy and Electric Transport Projects

The National Assembly approved a series of draft laws during a plenary session held on Monday, including key agreements aimed at financing major development projects—most notably two strategic initiatives in the energy sector.

The approved legislation includes a loan agreement signed on March 28, 2025, between Mauritania and the International Development Association (IDA) to support the first phase of the electricity transmission project under the West Africa Regional Electricity Market Program.

Parliament also ratified another loan agreement signed on March 25, 2025, with the French Development Agency (AFD) to finance a high-voltage electricity project in southern Mauritania, along with the construction of a solar power plant in the city of Kiffa. These initiatives are expected to strengthen the country’s efforts to expand electricity coverage and accelerate the transition toward renewable energy sources.
